Fun twist on the familiar game of GO FISH. Students in first grade must isolate and produce beginning, middle and ending sounds in a single-syllable word. They also have to be able to blend sounds of single-syllable words.
This version of Go Fish allows the students to practice both of these standards. The player looking for a card to match one in their hand, must ask for the card by isolating and producing the beginning, middle and ending sound. For example, if they are looking for the matching sun picture, they would ask if a friend has the /s/ /u/ /n/. Their friend would have to blend those sounds together to say 'sun'. If they have a sun in their hand, they would give it to the asking player. If they don't have it, they say 'GO FISH'. First player to run out of cards is the winner or the player with the most pairs wins.
