This is the Regular Version.
Several years ago Lakeshore Learning was selling a kit called Mystery Word Builders that included several colored plastic balls (red, green, blue and yellow) each containing a miniature object reflecting a CVC word and the three letters required to build the word. Although this kit was quite popular, it has since been discontinued. Occasionally you can find a used kit through Amazon or Ebay.
I have attempted to reconstruct a digital version of this activity using the same 20 CVC words as the kit. In this activity students are invited to choose a colored ball from a field of 10 different colored balls that each link to a page where a ball of the chosen color rolls on to the page and is then rattled to produce a mystery sound. “Can you guess the mystery CVC object, based on its sound?” Students are then invited to open the ball; the CVC word revealed is then announced, e.g., “cat” Students are then encouraged to spell out the three letter CVC word using the pen tools on the interactive whiteboard or using a paper and pencil. A further click is required to ‘drumroll’ the correct spelling, e.g., c a t.
