These tri-folded manipulatives have an important purpose: to make reading fun and successful by tackling the challenge in parts......not as an overwhelming whole.
Two ways to read the words are presented. One way is blending the individual letter sounds in sequence and the other way is combining a consonant sound with a sound-spelling (word families). This set of manipulatives feature short vowel o and word family combinations ob, od, og, op, and ot.
A lot of scaffolding is provided to make the reading process more do-able for the child .Each word is introduced with a hint/riddle before it is read. Hence, the word "mystery" in the title. After the child has sounded out the word, turn up the final flap to reveal a picture of what the word is.
These foldables can be used with individuals, in a small group, or in a center. They can even be put into interactive notebooks!
Pages 60- 67 are spelling pages. Scaffolded spelling practice is provided for every reading word.
Fun to do and so easy to make! Just print out and fold.
