There are 44 CVC game cards making 22 rhyming matches. Each card has the word and a picture. There are also 8 "special cards." There are numerous ways to play and/or differentiate this game.
1. Matching sets of rhyming cards.
2. Play memory.
3. Use the special cards to play this game. Make a card stack face down and have students take turns drawing the top card. The easier version is to have the student say the word/picture and then verbally give a rhyming word that goes with the card they drew. The harder version is to have the student say the word/picture, come up with a rhyming word that goes with the card the drew, and write the word rhyming word. (or even a sentence to make it more challenging) The word and pictures are on the cards so if the student needs extra support writing/spelling their rhyming word, you can scaffold by telling them “if you can spell ______. You can spell _____. You just change the beginning sound.”
***EXCITING NEWS- the special cards, the student get a kick out of this!. There are two different special cards with emojis as the pictures. The special cards mean you either get to take a card from another player or put back one of your cards under the deck. Once time is up or you run out of cards, the player with the most cards is the winner!
