Scoot is a game that will get your students up and moving around while practicing or reviewing skills at the same time! This bundle includes a scoot for game for each short vowel (a, e, i, o, and u) PLUS a BONUS Short Vowel Scoot game that reviews all of the short vowels. Six Scoot games in all for less than the price of five!
Each file contains enough Scoot cards to play with 30 students. I have included recording sheets for 20, 25, and 30 students. If you have less than 20 students, simply cross out the extra boxes. Arrows are also included to help guide your students to the seat they should scoot to next. Your class may not need to use the arrows after playing several times, but they do come in handy if your class is just playing Scoot for the first time.
Before Playing: Print out the Scoot cards (color or b&w version), arrows (if you’re using them – color and black and white ones are included), and recording sheets. I recommend printing the cards on cardstock and laminating them so they can be reused year after year and are more durable. Copy enough recording sheets so that you have one for each student. Place a Scoot card at each seat in your classroom – enough for all students to be seated with a Scoot card. If you are playing with less than 30 students, simply choose the ones that will work best for your class and set the others aside. (If you do this, you will need to white out/edit the numbers on the cards so they will match to the numbers on the recording sheet.
To Play: Each student starts off in her or her own seat. Say “Start” and have the students look at their Scoot card and write the answer on their recording sheet. Give students as much time as you feel is necessary. Call “Stop” when time is up. Say “Stand” and have students stand up with their recording sheets. Say “Scoot” when it is time for the students to move to a new seat. Using the arrows helps guide students to the correct seat. Call “Start” and students then look at the Scoot card at their new seat and write their answer on the recording sheet. Continue calling Start – Stop – Stand – and Scoot until each student has filled in their entire recording sheet. Collect cards, arrows, and student recording sheets when finished.
Answer key is included as both a sheet to print out or an answer key card the same size as student cards so you can store it easily.
Scoot is more fun than a worksheet and gives students the chance to move around!
