In my classroom, we complete these word builder activities during small groups or one on one direct instruction. These activities give my students practice the extra practice they need with listening to each specific sound, matching that sound to a letter, and building words!
I use the contents in this pack during small group or one on one instruction in addition to our core reading programs that follow a specific sequence for introducing vowels. As we work on each vowel, I use the cards and letter cards to give students an additional way to practice listening to the sounds they hear to build the words. The color coding of the letters, dots on the cards, and boxes on the word cards all correlate with each other to help students get a better understanding of vowels/consonants and their parts in a word. When teaching students a new vowel, I will start with using the picture cards with sound dots. As they master certain vowels, I will use the picture card without dots to practice building or writing.
