Directions: There are two formats included in this file. One set of cards has lined, traceable letters that your students can trace with their fingers and place magnetic letters or letter tiles on top of. The other version is more traditional.
If your students aren't ready for graphemes yet, you can use colored math tiles (or any other manipulative you choose) to segment sounds with directionality. Your students can swoop their fingers along the arrow to blend sounds.
If they are ready for some letter-sound correspondence, the CVC Tub by
Junior Learning is an excellent tool for segmenting and bleding. They are great tiles that can be placed onto the sound boxes separately and later combined to blend the sounds. They are color-coded by consonants and vowels. Initial Sounds are dark blue, medial sounds are red, and ending sounds are a lighter blue. You could use magnetic letters or letter tiles instead, if desired. This file is flexible and can be used with a variety of different manipulatives in a variety of different ways.
