Product Description
This activity is a great way to practice CVC words using word families. Each word family is on a separate mat. This allows students to see patterns in words. This is not meant for competition, simply a fun way to practice words. Each mat may be used by one or two students at a time.

How to use:

-Use the word cards to introduce each word family as a CVC word pattern.
-Word cards may be used as visual cues by beginners.
-Advanced students may not need these cards.
-Student will name a picture on the card and write the word on the grid.
-The middle letter (vowel) is given on the tic-tac-toe grid.
-Student will use the color-coded squares on the grid to write the beginning and last letter to complete the target word. Example: the word “cat” will begin and end on the green squares. The word “bat” will begin and end on the purple squares.
-The picture and written word will be crossed out for visual purposes. (The crossed out picture means that the word has been completed. The crossed word is a visual to keep the word together.)
-This Tic-Tac-Toe activity is meant for practice by a single student. -A partner can join in for fun, but there will be not be a winner.
-Make sure to introduce this game during small groups first.
-You can use the word cards and make your own grid on chart paper to work on it as a whole group .
-You can also run these on the copier to make black and white student copies.

It includes a set of 4 words for each of the following word families:

1. -at
2. -an
3. -en
