This set of games provides students the opportunity to practice short vowel words and word families.
How to Play the Game:
Students take turns getting a word family card and find the next picture that matches that word family. Each picture on the board has the same short vowel sound. Students must write the cvc word as they land on the recording sheet. Teacher can choose the number of boxes on the
recording sheet to differentiate the difficulty.
There are two ways to play:
Students can play until they make it to the “finish” spot on the board. The first person to the last word family would be the winner.
Students play until their recording sheet is full. The teacher can choose what word family is the winner. Example: “at” could be the winning word family so the player that has the most “at” words on their recording sheet could be the winner.
Once students are comfortable with playing these are perfect literacy centers, word work, or tutoring fun for students that need extra practice!
