Have students practice blending sounds of letters to make words using these CVC word boxes. Students will segment names of pictures into phonemes and write or use the corresponding magnetic letters to make the word.
Directions: Print these word cards on cardstock, laminate, and cut and use in a literacy center. Place the picture cards at a center. Have a student select a card, name it, and segment it into individual phonemes. (ex. bag /b/a/g/). Students may write the letters that correspond to the phonemes or place magnet letters to build the word. Dry erase markers work great! Have students read the words to a partner, record on paper or a white board.
Included: 2 sets of 50 word boxes, one set with blank boxes and one set with the middle vowel sound
Variations: Add the middle phoneme to each card and have the students write the beginning and ending phonemes. Use magnetic letter tiles instead of dry erase markers.
