Help your class get into the holiday spirit while reinforcing letter-sound correspondence and decoding skills! In this center, students use their decoding skills to decorate their trees. This center is as low prep as you want it to be (I use my paper cutter to cut the ornaments into squares instead of trimming all the way around), and it comes in both black and white and full color versions. You could even print the color version for your classroom and then print paper copies as holiday gifts for your kiddos!
My students LOVE playing moose, and they really love this holiday twist. They have so much fun playing that they don't even mind getting "moose'd" (as we call it)!
How to play: When it is her turn, a student will take an ornament out of the bin and attempt to read the word printed on it. If she is successful, she places the ornament on her tree. If not, she returns the ornament to the bin. If the ornament contains a moose, then she must return all of her ornaments to the bin. The player with the most ornaments when time is up wins!
