I designed this set of activites to grow in difficulty as your children grow in their knowledge! (It also makes it easy to differentiate all the activities, including “Write the Room”!)
In this set you will find 12 different “Write the Room” word card sets! One set for each vowel contains the CVC word on the card for the children to copy. The other set for each vowel contains just a number and the children have to sound out the CVC word (with the “focus vowel”) to write on their answer sheet. Then, there is a mixed set of CVC words with all 5 vowels with the word and without the word.
You will find the following pocket chart games:
-Lions matching CVC picture to CVC word
-“Find the Baby Animals” pocket chart game matching CVC
picture to the word and then checking to see if it was one of the
cards with the “baby on the back.
-Medial vowel safari- sorting the words by medial vowel sound.
Whole group games (and directions for playing as well as answer
sheet where applicable):
-CVC “Scoot” game (with answer sheet and directions)
-“Quiz, Quiz Trade” cards (Directions included)
-5 different “Spot it and Swat it” games (one for each vowel sound)
-14 Different Tic Tac Toe board games
You will also find the following word building mats:
-lion frames with CVC picture
-mats with and pictures for medial a
-mats with and pictures for medial e
-mats with and pictures for medial i
-mats with and pictures for medial o
-mats with and pictures for medial u
-blank mats (meaning no vowel provided on the mat to use with
mixed pictures to build words)
I have also included cute “jungle letters” to use with the word
building mats. I designed the mats to be of varying difficulty.
“Breaking it down” for the children this way, I have found helps
to build confidence and builds a great foundation for my
students, especially my “strugglers”! They build up to building
the whole CVC word, which includes listening for the medial
vowel (which in the beginning can be difficult!)
I have also included various worksheets! It is common core aligned and covers these standards:
SL.K.1 I can participate conversations with my friends.
LK.1 I can print my letters.
L.K2 I can spell words the way that they sound.
RF.K.1 I can recognize and name all of my upper and
lower case letters.
RF.K3b I can say the long and short vowel sounds for
the five major vowels.
RF.K3a I can say the sound of each of the letters of the
This is a huge pack filled with fun, engaging activities that can be used as centers, whole group games, small group activities, differentiation, remediation, and “Write the Rooms” galore!
