PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This pack of CVC literacy activities is full of fun and engaging activities that will offer your students practice working with short vowel CVC words.

This pack includes 4 CVC short vowel center activities. Each center activity includes an “I can” statement card, the materials needed to complete each activity and a student recording sheet. This pack also includes 8 additional CVC short vowel worksheets that can be used as recording sheets or as extensions worksheets.

Activities Included:

Sorting Bubbles
In this activity students place the short vowel sorting mats onto their work surfaces. Students then choose a short vowel bubble picture card or word card. They identify the picture on the card and then decide which mat to place the picture card on to. Once all of the picture cards are sorted, students can then complete the provided recording sheet or extension activity.

Missing Vowel Task Card
In this activity, students choose one of the missing vowel task cards. They identify the picture on the card and sound out the CVC word. Using a magnetic letter, dry erase marker or letter tile, students can determine the vowel that is required to complete the word and then mark the card. They can then complete one of the recording/extension worksheets provided.

Short Vowel I Have…Who Has?
This activity is intended for a large group of students. It works well as a whole class activity. In this activity, the short vowel playing cards are given out 1 or 2 per student. The player with the “start” card reads their card. The player who has the next card in the sequence then reads their card. Play continues until all of the cards in the sequence have been read.

Short Vowel Memory/Concentration
This activity works best when played independently in partner pairs or in small groups. This activity can be played using the picture cards or the word cards. You can also use a combination of picture and word cards. Players place the playing cards in an array or gird onto their work surface. The first player turns over one card and identifies the word or picture. They can then choose one more card to turn over. If they make a matching pair they can keep the match and take another turn. If they do not make a match they turn the cards back over and the next player takes their turn. Play continues until all of the pairs have been found.
