As your students begin their learning to read journey, they learn letter sounds.
Once students know some sounds, we can use CVC words to begin teaching decoding and blending. Students need to learn how to stretch out words they don’t know and blend them back together.
CVC words are a great place to start when practising this skill.
There are many different ways to teach these words. One way is to use it together with rhyming.
You can select a word family, find the words that rhyme and read and write the CVC words.
This pack offers you two different sets of activities.
The first set of worksheets uses only pictures for rhyming CVC words to help develop phonemic awareness with rhyming words.
The second set of worksheets requires your students to read CVC words and match to the correct picture.
These worksheets would be suitable for individual work, centers, or extra practice for consolidation.
