If you are using the Saxon Phonics letter order to introduce letters, use this document to assess students' ability to read CVC words that include these letters and write these words under the corresponding picture. The letters build upon each other and add to the difficulty of each assessment. The assessments begin with a review of letters Ll, Oo, Gg, Hh, Tt, Pp, Aa, and Nn in order to have enough CVC words to create the first assessment.
The first 17 letters also include a differentiated assessment for your struggling students. This differentiated assessment asks students to write the beginning sound for given pictures.
Because Kindergartners are generally ready for you to introduce two letters a week as time passes, the last 9 letters are combined into 4 separate assessments.
Pages 26-44 are intended for the more advanced students. These worksheets assess the following word chunks and phonics skills:
ch, sh, th, wh
ai, ea, ee, oa
triple consonant blends
ir, er, ur
ph, kn, wr
-ink, -ank, -unk
