I play a game with my students called the "1-2-3 Game." In this game, I show students a CVC picture card. When I hold up one finger, they say the first sound of the word describing the picture. When I hold up two fingers, they tell me the next sound. When I hold up three fingers, they tell me the last sound. Eventually, we practice writing the letter that matches each sound, until students are able to write simple CVC words on their own by playing the 1-2-3 game. This game works very well as a center. Students receive a packet of CVC picture cards. They use this sheet to write the letters that match each sound. They draw the picture from their CVC picture card in the large box.
