This is an activity for students to learn, improve and/or practice early reading skills. The video includes phonemic awareness, blending and phonic sounds. Students receive guided practice in reading cvc words.

In the video, students are shown pictures, listen to the letter sounds and have to color in the correct corresponding cvc word identified in the video on their worksheet. Students are prompted to say the sounds along with the video. Teachers should encourage students to say the sounds out loud with the video and when the video asks for responses.
**Teacher's note: We have found that this video can be used as an introductory tool as well as a tool for reinforcement of CVC practice in the classroom. It is good practice to review the words with students either one to one, small group or even whole group after the activity has been completed. Also, BRAND NEW, included is an assessment sheet if teachers want to see growth. Test student on words pre video and after the video. Simply use the worksheet to show the student the words and mark a check if they were able to read word and and X if not. That is why the columns are divided into two under each word. Pre/Post video. The activity can be done whole group, small group or as a center. For whole group, the teacher would simply display the video using their LCD projector and the students would complete the worksheet at their desks while the video plays. Teachers may pause the video at any time to add their own direct instruction if they chose. The video is self correcting so it does show the answers as it goes.
For Center activity:
STEP 1. Download the video onto the computers or you could use one laptop or tablet and connect headsets using a listening center device for headphones.
STEP 2. Download the worksheet and key
STEP 3. Copy the worksheets for the students.
STEP 4 Set up the computers with headsets on all stations.
STEP 5 Cue up the video
STEP 6 Have students bring worksheet, pencil and crayons.
