My highly rated CVVC card game to practice long vowel phonics in an engaging way. Focusing on just one phonics skill really lets the kids get that "two vowels walking" strategy down. With 48 CVVC word cards, students will practice with all vowel teams.
Are your students struggling with CVVC words? I am finding the CVCe is coming easily to many, but CVVC is stumping a handful for the first time this year. Wanting to keep the learning fun before it becomes frustrating, I created a spring-themed 'read a card' game.
48 CVVC word cards are included, as well as 12 'change it up cards.' The goal is to get the most cards, and the game suddenly stops when students pull a card telling them to 'stop.'
Directions are included with easy to read sight words and pictures, and a review of how to read CVVC words is included for students to refer to while playing.
I hope you and your students enjoy! This type of card game is quickly becoming a class favorite for my firsties. I love that they are still learning and also how little prep it is (even when laminating). Place the cards in a can (save those coffee cans!) or a small paper bag, and your kids are set to go.
