Bring Starbucks or any coffee shop to your classroom with this problem solving activity! Good for test prep. Students will use mainly long division skills mixed with some multiplication and multi-step word problems that are applicable to working for a coffee shop.
-Menu Math: Students draw questions out of a coffee cup. Then, they must determine how to solve the problem using their menus. Methods include long division, multi-digit multiplication, multi-step word problems, and basic addition and subtraction. Students also use basic shopping terms such as "buy one, get one free" and "save $2 when buying two."
-Create the Menu: Students design new menu items then must do long division to determine how many have been sold.
-Order Up!: Students must create a large order and determine the total and change needed. May be a good differentiation activity, but still involves problem solving.
