The activities in this unit will offer your students responsibility and ownership of interactive discussion. The activities are designed to be student directed and teacher guided but, easily can be adapted with the teacher taking a more active role. By using this study guide you will be able to guide your students while they analyze social values, cultural traditions and the historical experiences of a dynamic people.
The activities provide comprehensive lessons on the story of “Cajas de cartón ” and an introduction to literature and society in Spanish. This is a more economical version for the teacher who would prefer a study guide only and does not need the additional historical, political or daily lesson activities.
What is included:
• 3 sets of study questions
• 1 page word bank formatted for interactive learning folder (3-ring binder), composition notebook, document camera, smartboard
• Parts of a story mini-lesson
• Teacher keys and example responses
• Teacher resources; books
• 2 sample tests
Students will be asked to analyze, make connections, form opinions, discuss and debate migrant experiences as told through the eyes of a young boy, eleven-year-old Panchito whose family is forced to move around the state harvesting one crop after another. The student responses will be a combination of supporting references to the story as well as open-ended responses.
There are two sets of “Cajas de cartón” study questions with the second study set (Study Questions A) that is included and intended for use with all of your literature circles and other assigned stories or books. This second study guide can be copied and distributed to the students as a part of their composition notebook or interactive learning folder (3-ring binder). This study guide can be used as a teacher guided introductory activity for all literature activities or assigned to the student for interactive discussions. Please adapt it accordingly to each of your literature units.
These reading comprehension activities may be purchased as a stand-alone activity. If you would like additional literature-based activities for your literature discussion groups you may like to supplement your current curriculum with “La hormiga de Marco Denevi” as the activities are designed to coordinate with other my other literature units.
