Students love these logic puzzles and teachers love the critical thinking skills the puzzles support! This logic puzzle on calculating area is a great activity for enrichment, as a bellringer/transition activity, or even as part of emergency sub plans. Students will use clues to calculate the areas of six different playgrounds - all rectangular in shape. I made the math simple enough for this puzzle to be accessible to students as young as 4th grade with support but 7th graders would still be challenged by the logic aspect. Once the students have solved for area, they are asked to create scale models on graph paper for each playground.
This pdf packet includes the puzzle 2-up to save on copies, one up with blank space, and a one up with the grid for answers pre-created on the bottom. The answer key is included.
