Students will go shopping for school supplies using www.staples.com as a way to apply real-world percent calculations. Students will chose each supply given a category. Once the supply is chosen, students will round the cost to the nearest whole dollar. Students must then convert the percentage to a decimal and multiply by the cost. Students are asked to find the amount saved using the coupon and the new price.
At the end of the shopping trip, students are asked to find the total amount spent and calculate the cost of 6% sales tax!
This is a fantastic review of many skills including:
-Rounding decimals to whole numbers
-Adding and subtracting decimals
-Calculating percentages of numbers
-Converting percentages to decimals
