For the following classroom activity/lab is designed to be a fun hands on activity for your students to learn about the basics physics concepts of Distance, Time and Speed.
I do this one every year with my freshman as we race the “Tonka Truck of Physics” to find the trucks speed at various points and finish with graphing all the data at the end.
Not only does this help your students learn how to find and record an objects speed, but it also links in the math/graphing part of physics while they find the slope of the graph (rise over run) and connecting that to the trucks speed (distance over time)
Everything is here for this activity/lab. You will just need stopwatches and a windup car/truck. With the number of students with smart phones they days I have them use any stopwatch app on their phone, or they pull up a stopwatch on their Chromebook/Laptop,
