After students have studied finding derivatives for given functions that will describe the slope of a function at any point, it is time for students to begin reversing the procedure. If we give the students a derivative equation, can students paint a picture (a slope field) of that derivative equation to learn about the slope of a curve at points on the coordinate plane. The answer is YES. This activity engages the students in creating 7 different slope fields and looking for patterns that appear in the slope field. Students can even begin predicting what function (or family of functions) have those described slopes.
