Calculus Extrema Critical Values, Absolute Extrema
This activity is designed for Calculus 1 or AP Calculus. It is part of the third unit, Applications of the Derivative. Students find critical values, and then apply them to find extreme values. This engaging activity is excellent practice and enrichment to reinforce a lesson before the first derivative test.
☑ Task Cards: There are of 20 cards which are numerically coded.
#1 – 7 Determine all the critical values
#8 – 9 Determine all the critical values on a particular interval
#10 – 12 Identify the critical points and find the maximum and minimum value on the given interval.
#13 – 20 Find the absolute extreme values of the function on the interval.
I have also included a B/W version of the Task Cards for easy printing.

☑ Student response sheets with room for students to show their work.
☑ Worksheet with similar problems. The worksheet can be used in class or
as Homework, Assessment, or Enrichment.
