Do you want to have a head start on school prep and be on time when special occasions come ? This calendar will provide an interesting fact for every day of the year.

How is it organised ?

There is one month per page in landscape orientation. Visual indications for the different kinds of events are used to improve the readability of the charts: it can be the flag of a country, a pen for literature related facts, music notes, etc…

On the right side of each page is a column called “Notes”  where the movable holidays and full month events ( e.g black history month) will be indicated when needed. There is also some blank space where you can write anything you want.

How to use this resource

Whether you choose to display each page in the classroom or keep it in your teacher planner, you can, in fact, use this resource in many different interesting ways :

  • As a prep tool : it will give you a lot of ideas for your units
  • As a Bell ringer activity :  your students will love learning about the fact of the day. You can eventually make it a writing activity or just keep it as a short speaking activity.
  • As an idea provider : your students can choose an event from the upcoming week or month and do a research project.

As you can guess, finding an event for each day has not been an easy task. We had to choose between many interesting facts for certain dates but also came across some on which not much happened. Nonetheless, we did manage to find 366 items (Hello 02/29 !). You will get a mix of historical facts, cultural facts, birthdate or death date of historical and cultural figures who were born or who died that day, holidays. You’ll always find something of interest.

Please keep in mind this resource was primarily conceived for ESL teachers and students, so it is mostly focused on events and celebrations in the English speaking world (as mentioned in the title).

As many teachers already have, I’m sure you’ll find this calendar very useful !
