I created this set to replace another set I was using for calendar that wasn't aligned to the Common Core Standards. This set can be used any month. I will use it at the beginning of the year to start a geometry discussion and to introduce two dimensional geometry vocabulary. The pattern focuses on two geometry concepts- properties of polygons and determining if a figure has line symmetry.
The set includes a cover sheet, lesson plans (ideas for each week of use, sample questions, sample chart to create with students, vocabulary), a proficiency-based assessment for the end of the month, and 31 calendar pieces (4in x 4in) ready to cut out and laminate (or not).
The pattern is as follows:
polygon (with symmetry), polygon (without symmetry), non-polygon
...then within the figures that are not polygons there is another pattern having to do with the reason they are not a polygon (not straight (or curved), open figure, intersecting lines).
Your students will have an excellent grasp on these concepts just through this calendar unit!
