This year it's time to go deeper into our Social Studies units, so I created in depth nonfiction Reading Passages about the California Regions we will be studying, specifically the Coastal, Mountain, Desert, and Valley.
This product has 3 sections: First, each region has their own passage, multiple choice assessment, and a strategy grid to assist students into looking closely at the text. Answer keys are also provided.
Then, the 4 regions are compared through 4 pages of multiple choice questions and short responses. An answer key is also included for the multiple choice assessment.
Finally, there are 5 thinking maps included in the product that can be used for individual students, groups to work together, or as a whole class brainstorm. Please check out the real pictures located in the preview.
What's included in this product: *Region Questions (2 pages): Students can research the different regions and record information about the climate, seasons, animals, plants, adaptations, famous landmarks, cities, and latitude/longitude.
*Regions Mini Book (5 half pages and one fill in): Students can record 5 fun facts about the regions.
*Region Postcards (2 pages – print back to back on cardstock): Students can draw a picture of their favorite region and write a short note on the “back” of it to send to a friend.
*Region Writing Book (Cover and 4 writing pages): Students can use their facts to create a non fiction essay about the different region characteristics.
*Region Maps (4 pages): Students can use the full page map to practice drawing the outline of California, and the smaller maps to color the specific areas of the state. Blank pages are included for possible homework.
*Salt Dough Map Lesson (3 pages): Includes directions for the lesson, a note to send home to families for supplies, and the map key for students to color code their salt dough map after painting.
