Product Description
Use bibliotherapy with students who have special emotional social needs. Call It Courage was written by Armstrong Sperry and is a Newberry Winner (1941). Students meet Mafatu, a Polynesian boy afraid of the sea. A great survival story in which the magic of the sea and coral reefs helps Mafatu overcome his fears.

This will encourage students to explore reasons for loneliness, low self image, and fears.
Discover ways to combat loneliness, low self image, and fears.

This unit will work best with a small group of 10-15 students. Fourth and fifth graders will be invited to participate. The unit is designed specifically for AIG students, but could be tailored to a general education class.

AIG students should include those struggling with underachievement, feelings of isolation, and poor self image.

It would be preferable to separate boys from girls at this age, but not necessary.
