The regulation of emotion is the ability to respond to the ongoing demands of experience with the range of emotions in a manner that is tolerable and flexible to permit spontaneous reactions as well as the ability to delay spontaneous reactions as needed. Understanding anger at any age can be difficult and varied.
You can use this resource to help someone describe how their anger makes them feel or react, (that is non-disciplinary) and work from that to help the person self-regulate, understand and be compassionate about the emotion, in order to work on the next steps.
This is a tool to support emotional regulation, and classroom management, and not a remedy for anger or any underlying issues or behaviours. Following up with the child or teen is a vital part of the process, as is the ethics and policies that are part of any organizational mandate.
