This Calm Down Board can be used with all of your students or with certain students in particular. These strategies are especially helpful for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. You can give each student a copy to keep in their desk that they can refer to as necessary. The board can also be kept in a student’s pocket during times of transition. If they are in the hall, at recess, in the cafeteria, on the bus, or even at home, they will have these tools and strategies at their disposal. This calm down board would be an excellent addition to the calm down corner in any classroom as well. It not only provides the various calming and relaxation techniques, but also incorporates helpful visuals for each strategy. As a result of using this tool, students will be able to self-sooth and return to their previous activity with limited adult intervention. Over time, these calm down strategies will not only help students calm down when they are upset, but also prevent them from becoming upset before it happens.
