I have taught these strategies to students in private groups classes, schools and after school program in Canberra, Australia. Parents and teachers report success with students becoming more aware of their emotional wellbeing and recognising how their emotions and behaviour are connected, and choosing to use calm down strategies to help regulate their emotions and behaviour at school and at home. Strategies that focus on breathing, visualisation and physical movements help children (and adults) to turn off the body's natural response to stress. By teaching and rehearsing these strategies with children, and displaying visual prompts in the classroom or clam down space, children are supported to use calm down strategies when really needed, and to develop life long skills in self regulation.
