This set of five A4 size posters introduces calming and thinking strategies for older children and teens:
Change the Channel - a visualisation strategy to change the focus from a frightening or negative thought or memory. Particularly useful for handling nightmares or worrying situations. Teach and rehearse the strategy with students so they can build up a repertoire of positive memories or daydreams to focus on.
I am in Charge - an exercise combining hand movements and the words "I am in charge". This strategy may help students become more calm, more grounded and more in control of their feelings and behaviour.
Grounded Breathing - a breathing and visualisation strategy to help students focus on their body, their breath, and becoming more calm and focused.
Gloomy Goggles - a thinking strategy to support students to catch themselves out when they are thinking gloomy and pessimistic thoughts.
Shrink it Away - a visualisation and breathing strategy for becoming more calm and coping with worrying or stressful thoughts that you do not wish to deal with in a deeper way right now.
