The spirit of the Caribbean comes alive! 'Destination: Caribbean' is a seven-part essay series paired with a short documentary movie of the same name. Both are dedicated to using music as a means of understanding the past.
Part One is a 550-word discussion of Calypso, and what Trinidad's captivating national art can teach us about the Caribbean's long history of cultural assimilation.
This fun worksheet consists of two sections, 'Match-ems' and True/False questions. The first section presents students with a list of twelve terms from the text, which then must be matched with the correct definition or descriptive phrase. It is hoped that by completing these questions and the True/False exercise that follows, students will improve their learning comprehension and analytical skills, as well as their understanding of Trinidad and Calypso.
The essay series is an accompaniment to the short documentary movie 'Destination: Caribbean.' It can also be used standalone and included into a wide variety of curricula. Featuring topics that range from dance to history to the economic realities of being a Caribbean musician, each reading comes with a series of worksheets, activities and quizzes.
