Product Description
This 26-page file helps you teach students about 4 types of adaptations while focusing on understanding how camouflage works. This activity is perfect for whole-group instruction but can be used as a center or station activity, as well.

This file includes the following:
- 1 page of notes to you (standards addressed and hints for completing the activity)
- 11 pages of lesson plans (includes an "I will" statement, an essential question, word wall suggestions, materials needed, set-up instructions, a detailed, step-by-step lesson plan, and evaluation/assessment method)
- 2 feathers to cut and use as a warm-up/anticipatory set
- 5 pages that review, in detail, the 4 adaptation types
- Instructions to post at a center (if you'd rather complete this activity at a station instead of whole-group)
- 2 different recording sheets (that come 2/page -- saves paper AND fits perfectly when glued into a composition science notebook)
- Answer key
- 2 pages that show a recording sheet by itself (so you can display and explain it to students without it being confusing)
- graph paper (that comes 2/page)

In addition to the materials included in this packet, the following materials are needed for this investigation:
- 1 water bottle with 3/4 water and 1/4 vegetable oil inside
- very small container with a little extra vegetable oil
- paintbrush
- dropper
- clipboard (one that you're okay getting dirty/oily!)
- stopwatch, timer, or clock
- 1 small bucket or tub per group
- 2 pieces of orange printer paper (or color of your choice) per group
- 1 piece of pink printer paper (or color of your choice) per group
- 1 piece of blue printer paper (or color of your choice) per group

* I keep the paper and reuse it year after year. I've used mine for 3 years (with 13 different classes) so far, and it is still usable for next year!
