My students love this activity. Introduction takes 20 minutes and I give them a week to research and type out the essay. They either form a 2 member team or do it alone. They choose a presidential candidate for the 2016 election. They are the "Handler" otherwise known as the campaign manager. They create a strategy to get their person elected to the presidency. They use my prompts to research and write an essay on how they are going to win the 2016 election. This also includes a rubric so they can see how they are graded. Once complete the class puts groups together by candidates chosen in essays. Each group then compares strategies among the groups and one person shares with the class how they are going to win the presidency. Then they vote on who had the best strategy but it can't be their own. Winner gets candy. Lots of fun but really helps them to understand campaigns. The classroom sharing takes about 45 minutes.
