Calculators are a great tool and provide students the opportunity to expand their mathematical horizons. But when and where should they use them? Knowing when to reach for a calculator is a skill we need to teach children and this activity is designed to promote effect calculator usage. The students start by discovering the advantages of a calculator, then discover the disadvantages, followed up by giving each child the chance to apply their new found understanding of calculator usage. This also a nice activity for differentiated instruction.
