One of my favorite instructional strategies is to ask students to write stories, reviews or summaries in 25 words or less. By intentionally limiting the words that students can use, I force students to think with intentionality -- about the topic and about the words that they are using to communicate with readers.
This handout walks students through the process of writing a 25 word story -- and then asking them to text it to their moms, dads and best friends to receive feedback!
It's always a hit in my classroom. I bet it will be in yours, too.
