Santa’s 8 reindeer have run away from the snow. Can you help him get them back in time for Christmas Eve?
Use this engaging activity to keep your students learning all the way up to Winter Break!
This Can You Find Santa’s Missing Reindeer activity was designed as an engaging activity to learn about how other countries celebrate Christmas. In this lesson, you will give your class the the mission of rescuing Santa from all the snow in the North Pole and finding his 8 reindeer that have run away. Students who find all 8 reindeer will earn an extra treat.
You will need to display the treat somewhere prominent in your classroom BEFORE the day of the activity. This will peek their interest for this activity! You will need this treat for students who find all 8 of the reindeer. On the day of the activity, a snow storm will have hit your classroom. In the middle of the room, place the Santa paper and a pile of snowballs on top of him (the crumbled up question sheets). Also leave the letter from Santa.
You can allow students to work together or independently, it is your choice. Students will have to solve 8 different snow balls to earn all 8 reindeer and earn the prize. Each person/group will take a snowball from on top of Santa and begin reading the posters around the room to answer the questions. Once they answer all five questions correctly, they can earn that number reindeer. They will get another snowball and repeat. (They need to make sure each time the number on the top of the questions is different. You could also put each set of questions on a different color of paper for easy distinction.) Students will work to finish all eight stations. I suggest setting a timer as well to keep students on task for that question set. I suggest 5-7 minutes, the questions are not hard, but require them to find the information.
Once a student has collected all 8 reindeer, they can take a treat and enjoy!
