Depending on the child, the book and this activity are for readers from 3rd to 6th grade who are reading at a 5th grade level..
I wrote this worksheet to be used by a very capable third grade language arts group as a fun activity to go along with reading The BFG by Roald Dahl. My objective was for the students to practice some language and writing skills by correcting the Big Friendly Giant's funny spelling, grammar and punctuation. Since the BFG never went to school, he had to teach himself to read and write.
The activity follows reading the fourteenth chapter of The BFG, called Dreams, where Sophie, the little girl and heroine of the book, is reading labels on the jars that tell what the dreams stored inside them are about.
The first section of the sheet lists some of the BFG's misspelled words and asks students to rewrite them correctly.
In the second section, students are given sentences based on some of those written on the dream labels, and are asked to fix spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
