Product Description

This activity is a great way to remind students how DETAILED they need to be in either Written instructions or in drawings.

Students will be working in pairs and will create a random structure from random material. The materials you can provide are:

-Small Dixie Cups

-Paper clips

-Spaghetti

-Pompoms

-Any cheap crafty stuff from the dollar store works!

-If you have leftover Lego pieces, that would work great!

Ø Place all of these items for each set of partners in a brown paper lunch bag. Each bag DOES NOT have to be identical! Use what you have!

Students will work with their partner to construct an unusual structure using the materials in their bag. They will draw a detailed picture of their structure on one piece of paper and write the detailed steps on how to replicate it on another piece of paper. Students will exchange bags and pictures in order to replicate another group’s creation using only the pictures at first. They will then be able to use their written instructions after a certain amount of time has passed. A brief writing assignment analyzing their experience and reflections is included.
