In this product students will research the:

1. Reasons why each province and territory joined Confederation
2. Date each joined Confederation
3. Important People involved in the decision to join Confederation
4. Shape of each province or territory prior to confederation.

Students will complete:

1. Research and Pennant with facts (reasons, date, people, shape prior to Confederation)
Use books, videos, text books or online sources of information.
I use https://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/confederation/kids/023002-1000-e.html for all but Nova Scotia. I find that the previous website is not sufficient for Nova Scotia, so I use http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/nova-scotia-and-confederation/. The text on the website is a bit more difficult than the Collections Canada one so I try to give Nova Scotia to a good reader.

2. A Presentation (I have students tell about what they learn and place their pennant under the document camera. No worksheet provided for this)

3. Listening and Recording Sheet (If you choose to have students present thier research, then students listening to the presentation can fill in information on each province and territory. I like using the sheet as it keeps students who are listening accountable while other students are presenting)

4. Time line showing each Province and Territory’s Confederation date

5. Worksheet that requires students use the timeline they constructed
