Product Description
“Canada’s Government: The Prime Minister” includes two differentiated reading texts (“Justin Trudeau, Canada’s Prime Minister” and “The Role of the Prime Minister”) written at two levels for a total of four text pages. The second text is a brief, very rudimentary look at the role of the PM, I expect teachers will be able to expand on the information that I have included.

Please note that the second, higher level passages do NOT have the four vocabulary words underlined.

Classroom teachers will be able to use the differentiated texts to suit their teaching environment. The passages contain almost identical information and include the same vocabulary words.

There is one student worksheet for each of the passages (i.e. the worksheets are not differentiated) and one supplemental activity in two formats for students to complete. The worksheet includes comprehensive questions, vocabulary work, and an opinion question.

For the supplemental activity, students find a media article and/or video news item about the prime minister. It could be any topic, from governmental procedure, to international relations, to public appearances. If students do not have easy access to the media in the classroom, the teacher should be able to provide them with a copy of a relevant story from a newspaper, magazine, or online news source. For younger students, this may be the preferred option. I have not included a sample article due to copyright reasons but there are many sources on line (e.g. the CBC website) that have stories, articles, and opinion pieces about the PM. Teachers can have students do one of the supplemental activities, or both.

I have many government resources in my store. Please have a look:
