How Canada's Government Works. This resource's point of view is Canadian and is designed for Canadian students. It includes:
- a reading text of 560 words that is written in a question and answer format describing the basic structure of the federal government of Canada. The reading level is better suited for grades 6 or even 7, but would well with a strong grade 5 class;
- a comprehension exercise that asks the students to rewrite incorrect statements based on the text;
- two research activities that may be completed using the Internet or as a teacher-guided exercise.
Answer keys are included. The lesson plan is illustrated with graphics or photos that print well in black and white.
Updated to include changes due to the election of October 19, 2015.
Great for an ESL class too!
I also have an expanded version of this unit in my store - "Canada's Government - Informational Text, 5 Activities" for a slightly higher price. Informational Text 5 Activities
