Government in Canada - Vocabulary Activities: Democracy, The Parliamentary System, and the Three Levels of Government includes 5 vocabulary pages for students to complete along with two activity pages for each of the 5 vocabulary lists.
This resource has five sections:
--- one about our system of government (democracy and the Parliamentary system);
--- two sections on the federal government; and
--- one each on provincial/territorial governments and municipal governments.
The main focus is to familiarize students with the often difficult vocabulary that must be learned to understand how Canada functions as a political entity. There are in total 42 vocabulary words and terms, 10 in the first section, and 8 each in the other four.
To make the topic of government vocabulary a little more interesting for young students, I have used two imaginary students on the activity pages - Sophie, who has recently become a Canadian, and her overseas cousin, Jadran who hopes to emigrate to Canada with his family (his home country is not specified). Sophie explains the ins and outs of the Canadian system, and Jadran asks her questions which are designed for your students to answer.
I have included answer keys - the vocabulary answer keys are quite detailed but only serve as a guide for the classroom teacher to use. There is enough flexibility to add or subtract some of the information I have included. Please note, though, that certain items should be included so the students can complete the activities.
The information in this resource was checked against government websites and excellent books for accuracy. This unit, as designed by me, is original.
This unit is part of two bundles of my Canadian government resources. The smaller bundle has 3 products and the larger one is a Mega Bundle of 7 products. Both are priced at a discount. The bundles may be seen here:
