Jacques Cartier, His Life and Times is designed as a multi-purpose informational reading and writing unit for upper elementary students. This resource is useful for a Social Studies class or for informational text for English Languages Arts. Each of the three texts can be used alone (but in sequence): they could be assigned as the teacher wishes: in class over a couple of days or more, as homework, as independent projects, etc.
---The texts are chronological; Part 1 is titled “Jacques Cartier’s Early Life and First Voyage”, Part 2 is “Cartier’s Second Voyage to Canada”, and Part 3 is “Cartier’s Third Voyage”.
---Each text includes a short question as well as student work pages:
a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion) with a short creative writing task;
a page of vocabulary and language use work.
a full answer key is included for all objective work.
Canadian spelling conventions are used in this resource.
