Designed with the Alberta grade 7 Social Studies curriculum in mind, this activity asks students to conduct a survey within their school. When I used this, our students were broken into teams to visit each grade 7 class in our school. They asked their peers to state where their ancestors (or they themselves) emigrated from. (I must state that the cultural makeup of our school fits the trends in Canadian immigration very well - particularly the groups studied within the curriculum). Then students returned to class, compiled their information, created a chart or map and answered the questions included. It is an excellent activity to get kids seeing the relevance of history in their own lives.
