Product Description
I am a teacher who loves projects and presentations but sometimes a quick and easy, pencil to paper assessment is needed and gives educators a quick way to see what their students are understanding and what they need support with.

I created this Check In pack to address those needs. Included is:

- 6 two-page assessments on each of the six major Canadian regions. Each assessment is totalled out of 20 for easy marking.

- Answer keys for each assessment.

- Topics and vocabulary covered in the assessments include:

a) Natural resources found in the region

b) Provinces or territories that make up the region

c) Who were the first Aboriginal people of the region

d) Challenges and benefits experienced by both Aboriginals and early explorers of each region

e) Important vocabulary as it relates to the region (ex. potlatch, cavalry, muskeg, scrip, scurvy, etc.)

f) Important events that took place in the region (ex. The Quebec Act, The Underground Railroad, The Order of Good Cheer, The Great Migration, etc.)

g) Important people of the region (ex. Samuel de Champlain, Joseph Brant, John A. Macdonald, etc.)

h) Critical thinking opportunities (ex. Was scrip a good idea? How has farming changed in the Interior Plains? Compare how Sikh immigrants and Chinese immigrants were treated in the Cordillera region)

i) Opportunities in each assessment for your students to share something that they have learned about the region that they feel is important or relevant.

These check-ins can be used at the end of a region study, at the end of a unit or at the end of an Amazing Race Pitstop. (For the last two years, I have used these check-ins at the end of each Pitstop with students needing to receive a score of 80% or higher before they can move to a new region).

The check-in's tie in nicely to my other Social Studies projects and can be used with that dreaded "Voices of Canada" textbook!

Check out a few of my other Social Studies products related to the regions of Canada to help you and your students enjoy Social Studies this year!
