THIS IS A BUNDLED UNIT OF STUDY IN Word FORMAT.
This is an introductory unit on cancer for the high school level student. It includes an open notes (fill-in-the-blank) assignment to be used with a projector and 3 additional assignments. All assignments can be used as a topic for open discussion before the assignment begins due to its content and relation to real-life experiences.
Some of these assignments are in an electronic format to be used with a drop box such as Blackboard, School Space or Schoology. On the electronic copy, I use red or blue asterisks to denote where the students need to type - name, date, answers to questions. This makes it easy for me to read and grade and easy for the student to see that they've answered the questions. If the students have answered the questions correctly, it will look much like the answer KEY. I love technology!
How to Use This Unit – Cancer TpT
1. Begin by introducing the “CA Open Notes” using a projector or Promethean/Smart board on annotate. The answer key for the teacher is included.
2. The students will then complete the “Intro to CA Open Notes W.S.” using the CA Open Notes for their answers. The answer key is included.
3. The assignment titled “CA Survival Rates” should be discussed before completion by going over the 5-year survival rates for the different cancers listed. The term “prognosis” can be discussed thoroughly at this point. The graph also lists 10, 15 and 20-year survival rates. This can be a challenging assignment and may require a calculator for some cross-curricular learning .
4. The assignment “Causes and Risk Factors W.S.” is a list of questions relating to a sheet of information that is attached as the second and third pages of the assignment. All questions go in order, so there is no need to search the entire document.
