Product Description
In this technology-based lab station activity, students will work independently to move around the classroom to learn about cancer. QR codes are incorporated in each station to allow students to easily access the videos and articles onto their personal devices in order to then answer the provided questions. Topics covered include: cancer basics, how these cells behave differently than others, how it spreads through the body, statistics, misconceptions, and frequently asked questions such as, “Why don’t we all have cancer?” and, “Why haven’t we cured cancer?” Links to all sources are included, in addition to the QR codes, for students who choose to work on a laptop. Editable station cards are included for you to customize for your classroom, if needed. This can function as a guided inquiry activity to introduce the topic of cancer after having covered the basics of cell division, or as a follow-up activity after discussing cancer in lecture.

Why should I use this product in my classroom?
I love lab stations as a way for students to productively use technology as well as work autonomously in the classroom. Students get out of their seats and have the opportunity to use their beloved technology in a meaningful way. I love these lab stations in particular due to their relevancy to students. This resource was created out of necessity in my own classroom when I discovered my students’ vast interest in this everyday phenomenon. This is a topic that nearly every student has a personal connection with, so they really want to learn more about it! These stations are relatable to their everyday lives, making it engaging and interesting for students.
